NWC Executive Secretary urges partners to empower women as MTN launches 6th CWiB Awards

Kigali, 25 April 2025- The Executive Secretary of the National Women's Council, Umubyeyi Marie Médiatrice, has officiated the launch of the 6th edition of MTN Rwanda’s Connect Women in Business (CWiB) Awards, held under the powerful theme "Uri uw’agaciro" (You are of value)

One such beneficiary, Mukantaganzwa Donatille from Musange Sector in Nyamagabe District, expressed her gratitude to the Government of Rwanda for continuously empowering women. Sharing her success story, she stated that with the three million Rwandan Francs awarded by MTN Rwanda, her group significantly expanded their pineapple farming business, and today, they have established a model pineapple farm, recognized as a benchmark in Nyamagabe District, contributing both to their family incomes and community development.

In her address, the Executive Secretary of the national Women’s Council, Umubyeyi Marie Médiatrice commended MTN Rwanda for its commitment to supporting women’s economic empowerment through initiatives like Connect Women in Business, and called on other partners and stakeholders to scale up efforts in promoting women’s development. She reiterated the Government’s vision of seeing women actively involved in large-scale, income-generating projects, utilizing technology, and fostering innovation. 

She emphasized that women must strengthen their skills to build strong, self-reliant, and secure families and communities, urging them to be role models for the younger generation, initiating transformative development projects in their communities, and inspiring others. 

Connect Women in Business is an annual initiative under MTN Rwanda’s corporate social responsibility programs aimed at supporting women’s entrepreneurship across the country. The awards recognize outstanding women-led projects, offering financial support and mentorship enabling them to improve their businesses, embrace innovation, and uplift their families and communities economically and socially.
